We sold Rio and got relegated.

We should not repeat the same mistake again..

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
Just been reading this thread do some really think he is average and we will sign someone of he's quality to replace him ?

FMOB we should be moving heaven and earth to keep him , if/when he goes some will realise what he brings to the team

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
Reid is a good defender. But if arsenal buy him the fans will add him to a list of players that holds them back from actually winning anything.

If true at the Austria match one of Thier cb would be decent esp the one at dynamo

Bout time we had a player called dragovic

He's good, but he's not the anointed.

You can't blame him wanting to play for a top 4 club.

Oh!

Reid is overrated. Simple as.

I know it's about opinions but how have you come to that conclusion? Clean sheets kept us up last season and I'm sure we didn't get many when he was out injured?
(Happy to be proved wrong)?

@davidgold: “@leighMrBsmall: why are we getting rid of winton reid?

We are not 'getting rid' of WR we want him to stay and sign a new, contract. dg

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
We will be a top 4 club in January so who are the central defenders with release clauses to a top 4 club in their contracts?!

Seriously tho' keep Reid on until end of season, there must be other quality central defenders who are out of contract next summer we should look at - anyone got a list. You know that's the way it will go as we will use most of our money in going for a Song!

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
He's playing well and will continue to as needs a club at the end of the season, his decision to leave could back fire though as I'm not convinced he's good enough for the top sides tbh

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
I agree with Chim, Reid is a great defender and it seems like a lot of people are claiming he's overrated as it will somehow make it easier when he moves on.

He'll be hard and probably very expensive to replace.

chim chim cha boo 2:40 Sun Nov 16
Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
Reid is not overrated and this thread amazes me with stuff like 'let him rot in the reserves', 'easily replaced', 'take a couple of million for him'.

The counterweight of our new attacking ethos is are centre-halves because when a team catch us on the break our full-backs are likely to be up the wrong end of the pitch.

I think too many of you have been watching the attacking side of our game recently and haven't really watched what happens when an attacking move breaks down and the opposition hit us on the break. Reid has usually read it beautifully and either wins it back or channels the play towards whoever is behind him, usually Collins.

I'm actually pretty amazed we haven't conceded more goals with attacking full-backs like Jenkinson and Cresswell in the side. Reidy is a major reason why that is and is one of our very best players.

There again the a lot of you seem to know better than a lot of top teams who are apparently sniffing around because they're crying out for a Reid-like player and our owners who are desperately trying to keep him?

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
'Hold the club to ransom?'
How? As stated he's the best defender by a mile, he wants wants comparable with our striker who's contributed a quarter to what Reid has. He's massively improved under BFS, I only hope that this maybe a reason he eventually may sign.

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
I expect Reid to look back on this in to or three years and realise he's messed this up a la Green or Upson.
He is nowhere near as good as he may think he is.

His choice of course...

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
I think it's very clear Reid is holding the club to ransom, if he was not he could just say i am running my contract down and i'll be leaving in the summer.

I feel sorry for the board on this one, are they supposed to break the whole wage structure of the club to fit him in

Re: The Winston Reid Situation.
Both the Mail and the Star are reporting that we are looking at Fulham defender Dan Burn and Austrian international, Aleksandar Dragovic as potential replacements for Reid.

My thoughts entirely, Brampton.

I don't think we'll miss him as much as some are making out.
